day 124: decisions decisions
So, last night I bit the bullet and went bikini shopping. It wasn’t as terrible an experience as I expected, but that could be because I new I was just browsing and not buying (a decision this big needs second opinions, and possibly thirds, and maybe fourths… you get the idea.)
I took pictures of myself in all the bikinis I tried on, except a couple of bandeaus I tried accidentally (I thought they were halters on the hanger) because, in all honesty, I would be afraid to see that image again. If you want a mental picture, imagine your favourite football lineman in a bandeau. Yeah, not pretty.
Anyway, I sent all the pictures that I did take to my sister Vicki in Chicago for her scrutiny. I’ve left you here with some images of just the swimsuits.
I thought this one was pretty cute. Kind of a ’50s pin-up girl style. The bottoms weren’t the greatest looking on me though.
I really liked the top of this one because it covered up a lot and it had a thick band beneath the cups.
This one was cute. Classic surfer style. I was surprise that the top was flattering since it was the only one that I tried that had no support cups or padding. Matt actually thought this style top looked best on me. The bottoms looked cute with the blue top above too.
I really liked these bottoms. They look so fun! I couldn’t find a top at the store to go with them. (I was wearing a bright yellow bandeau here) Maybe something solid black?? Or a yellow halter if I can find one.
This top was quite flattering. The bottoms were good too because they covered up my chicha (aka muffin top) in the back. I’m not sure they go well together though.
Same top with matching bottoms.
This was another cute ’50s pin-up style one. I really liked the fabric of this one– it was mostly nylon and felt almost water-resistant.
I don’t know that I’ll be able to stomach anymore swimwear shopping but if I do I’ll post more pictures here.
Well, what do you think? I would LOVE some feedback!

Hi! I think the combination of the plaid bikini top with the brown flattering bottom that “covers your chicha” looks totally fine! Brown is neutral, it can go with just about anything! I have this one bikini botton (that’s brown) that I just love and it’s pretty flattering. I wear it with almost every top that i have! it’s alot easier when you can do that. I have a few other colors in the same style and just buy different cute tops.
I like the polka dots and the classic surfer ones but you know that’s this humble guys opinion.
I think the last one has a great style but think you could rock anyone of them! mix and match until you find the best fit—it’s all about making you feel gorgeous.
I love the last plaid one- very retro, which I’ve always thought it cute!!
I like the last one and the classic surfer one. The first one’s pretty awesome, too, if you could find a different pair of bottoms to go with it.
I’m not sure if you’ve looked, but Old Navy can have some ok bikinis. They’re not the best made (obviously, they’re pretty cheap) but they’re about the most modest I’ve seen. They have thick banded halter-style tops and bottoms that cover (I would know about this!)
I love the first red bikini, so cute! I would also buy the surfer bikini, awww!
I don’t know how can actually wear those bandeau bikinis, because they look TERRIBLE on me?! the flatten my boobs and look like they would drop any minute and still you see them in every catalog in spring. I would love to wear one, but somehow I don’t know if I have the right figure for it.
I really like the second one, but they’re all really cute.
I loooove the two 50′s pin up style ones- the red and the plaid! They seem feminine, flattering, and sexy. I bet you have a great figure for them given your awesome exercise/eating patterns. Good luck! Bathing suit shopping is always a hard one- which one to choose…
i like the hawaiian surfer one for sure! super cute!
Ooh I really love that blue one! With the solid top and striped bottoms. Bikini shopping is fun, I would just so much rather purchase them than try them on! =P
I like the one with the palm tree especially, but I also like the last one, with the plaid. I agree that it looks like the perfect 50s pin-up girl suit! Which one did you choose?
You are adorable! I would have a hard time deciding, too. I’m with Megan, I really like the blue one!
I like the second to the last bikini with the matching top and bottom…the color is great and the plaid is cute. I’m sure you’ll look great in any of these though…bikinis intimidate me!!
I think the first one is super cute!! But…I would go with the one you feel most comfortable in. That’s most important!
i always go for colors that make me look tanner naturally — those are usually turquoise, yellow, magenta, and lime green. So I love the turquoise plaid one! I find those colors are much more slimming in suites than the regular black
Surfer style, definitely!
