Is the game worth your money?

No, no it is not.

Not by a long shot.

I'll begin with the multiplayer aspects of this game since it is arguably everyone's favorite aspect of the Halo franchise. The big "breakthrough" in multiplayer ingenuity with ODST is the Firefight mode. Hyped to be the big feature of this expansion, but really this is nothing more that Horde mode from Gears of War 2 with a first person perspective. This was taken from a game released less than a year ago by Microsoft. Here they are, less than a year later, releasing the exact same thing. If you never played Gears of War 2 (which I bet you have if you love Halo) then you might enjoy this. Otherwise it's really nothing new. As for the other "new" multiplayer, they added a bunch of multiplayer features from the first 2 Halo games on xbox that were left out of Halo 3. So, you're basically paying for what Microsoft had given to you and then took away from you, and simply asked you to pay them back for this. What a croc.

But they did also include a single player campaign to help fill in some backstory during Halo 2. As an Elite squad of dropship troopers, you are dropped in New Mombasa in a desperate attempt to repel covenant attacks on the region. The opening cinematics to this campaign were fantastic. It really sucked you in and made you want to explore this campaign. I did enjoy how the story unfolded in separate pieces which had to be brought together through exploration of the city, but in the end, it was incredibly underwhelming. Also I played this game on hard to make it last a while and all it took was 5 HOURS to beat this campaign. I couldn't believe how short it was for the price you're paying.

I'm sorry, but this game was WAY overpriced for what it was offering. If this was sold as perhaps a $30 expansion, then I'd say it might be worth your money if you're a dedicated Halo multiplayer. But for everyone else, this game is not worth your money. Do not buy it.

Story & Purpose

You play as an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper which is deployed directly into the battle for New Mombasa. The story takes place during the events of Halo2, where Master Chief is getting busy with the covenant *wink.* You wake up six hours after your deploy time, the battle has been won by the covenant, and are left to fight for your life - and possibly meet up with other survivors...

Presentation & Style

All Multiplayer modes are back with the addition of the new Firefight: survive as long as you can against waves of enemies while you share all resources with your team-mates - lives and supplies.
The environments revolve around New Mombasa, which are very beautifully rendered.
The music score is beautiful and fits nicely into the Halo-universe.
